The “Ora et labora” Market Play is visible and audible throughout the entire event area!
The magnificent “Ora et labora” (Pray and work) performance is set in the year 1466, when the central nave of Turku Cathedral was raised by order of Bishop Konrad Bitz. The major renovation of the cathedral involved all social classes, and this is also reflected in the market play.
The play features over 60 actors, and it is written by Petra Lähde and directed by Petra Lähde and Aliisa Kallio. The diverse musical score is composed by Kati Hatakka together with Samuli Laine. The impressive costumes are designed by Soile Karhu, while the varied props are produced by Rebekka Karhunheimo.
Scenes from the market play can be seen at the Old Great Square, the Brinkkala Courtyard, the Sahti Quad (courtyard of House of Hjelt), as well as in the courtyard of Katedralskolan (Cathedral School).
